Letter of Support for Expo 2031 Minnesota, USA from United States Representative Brad Finstad

April 16, 2024

As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Nutrition, Foreign Agriculture, and Horticulture of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture and Representative for Minnesota's First Congressional District, I write today to express my strong support for Minnesota's application to host the 2031 World Horticulture Exposition. 1

Since 1960, the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) has partnered with the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) to periodically host the World Horticulture Exposition. These expositions "foster cooperation and the sharing of knowledge and solutions between countries, horticultural producers and agriculture industries."'

According to AmericanHort-the trade association representing the United States horticulture industry -the industry contributes $348 billion and 2.32 million jobs to the U.S. economy. 2 Despite this significant economic impact, the United States has never hosted the World Horticulture Exposition. Hosting this exposition in the United States is long overdue and I believe Minnesota-a leading agricultural state -will serve as the ideal location to showcase the American horticulture industry.

In order for Minnesota to move forward in the application process, I respectfully request that you expeditiously take the steps necessary under 22 U.S.C. 2802 and 15 C.F.R. 310.3 to recognize and approve this application. I thank you for your attention to this matter and look forward to working with you to further promote the American horticulture industry.
