Indigenous Plantscape

We celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and horticultural knowledge of the Indigenous peoples and tribes of North America. Our Indigenous Plantscape honors the deep connection between land and culture, showcasing how Indigenous ways have shaped horticulture, food systems, and sustainable practices for centuries. This theme highlights the vital role of native plants, exploring their importance in ecosystems, their uses in food preparation, and their connection to Indigenous culture and traditions. From prairie roots and redwoods to alpine flora and xeric gardens, the diverse native plants of Turtle Island tell stories of resilience, abundance, and sustainability.

Through exhibits and experiences, we’ll delve into the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, bringing forward traditional knowledge of native plants and showcasing their uses in menus, recipes, and culinary traditions. From immersive landscapes to hands-on workshops, attendees will explore how these practices inspire sustainable solutions and a renewed respect for the interplay between people, plants, and the land.
