MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Expo 2031 Minnesota USA, the organization spearheading the highly anticipated A1 World Horticultural Exposition in the United States, has established a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to lead its operations. This transition marks a pivotal step in bringing the once-in-a-generation six-month international event to life in Dakota County, Minnesota.
Expo 2031 Minnesota USA’s CEO, Wendy Meadley, commented, “Expo 2031 Minnesota USA is uniquely positioned to galvanize the world of horticulture in the United States. This is not just a six-month exhibition—it’s a legacy project that will elevate Minnesota and the nation on a global stage.”
Federal Approval Nears, Global Partnerships Formed
With its U.S. Department of Commerce application approved and awaiting final federal endorsement, Expo 2031 Minnesota USA has secured application support from key federal entities and broad state and regional backers. The project’s international legitimacy has been bolstered by application acceptance from the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and member-aligned support from AmericanHort.
A Visionary Event to Inspire and Connect
Planned for May to October 2031, the Expo will unfold across a stunning 240-acre site along the Mississippi River in Rosemount, Minnesota. The site’s visionary design—shaped by the paisley’s symbolism of aspiration and groundedness—will host a tapestry of immersive experiences:
Country Gardens: Representations from 60+ countries, including participation and visits from heads of state
State-of-the-Art Expo Hall: Hosting trade shows, corporate events, and dynamic exhibits
Biodomes: Showcasing flora and fauna across all USDA hardiness zones
Thematic Tours: A “Human Nature” themed program that will travel across American public and botanic gardens, inspiring communities nationwide
Economic and Social Impact
The Expo is projected to:
Attract 4 million visitors over six months
Host 250+ sponsors and generate an estimated $1.5 billion in regional GDP impact
Support 17,000 jobs and engage 30,000 volunteers
Catalyze $200 million in state and local tax collections and $200 million in foreign direct investment
Meadley emphasized, “Our Expo’s impact extends across five critical sectors: horticulture, agriculture and food production, consumer packaged goods, health and well-being, and future technology. We’re building a public-private partnership ecosystem designed to deliver economic and societal benefits for generations.”
Commitment to Sustainability and Community
The Expo site will target net-zero energy use and serve as a focal point for leisure, recreation, and green living in the Twin Cities region. Enhanced by park & ride networks and county-wide visitor centers, Expo 2031 will activate local infrastructure and the region’s green lifestyle.
Minnesota at the Heart of Global Collaboration
Expo 2031’s organizing committee—comprised of industry leaders, designers, public-private partnership experts, and business visionaries—will oversee event preparation and legacy. Collaborators include the Dakota County Economic Development Agency, the American Public Garden Association, and numerous growers and specialty crop producers.
“Expo 2031 is more than an event—it’s a movement. We’re inviting the world to Minnesota to celebrate, innovate, and shape the future of horticulture, agriculture, and sustainable living,” said Meadley.
