Minnesota is taking another shot at hosting a world exhibition — and this time, it's got a good chance of landing it.

A key difference between the failed bid and now? Minnesota's proposal doesn't have any competitors, said Wendy Meadley, CEO of the Edina-based entity leading the effort, Expo 2031 Minnesota USA.
Meadley previously served as a board member for Bloomington's Expo 2027 effort, which lost the bid to Belgrade, Serbia, last year. Expo 2031's Chief Architect and Strategy Officer David Loehr also previously served in a senior adviser and architect role for Expo 2027's bid.

According to Meadley, the Expo 2031 team has been working through a parallel approval process with the U.S. federal government and the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), the global organization that oversees major horticultural exhibitions. The completed application is currently in the process of achieving U.S. government approval. After that, the AIPH is expected to make its official decision on the matter in February.

The companies that have already signed on as founding partners include DevryBV Sustainable Strategies, Government Analytica, Medical Alley, Modern Climate and Next Phase Studio. Other delegation supporters include Dakota County, Bachman's Inc., the Minnesota Zoo, the University of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum and more, according to the website.
