IN THE NEWS / Minnesota Expo 2031 selects Lakeville as host city, secures land

The team working to bring a world exhibition to Minnesota in 2031 has zeroed in on Lakeville to serve as the host city.
The organizing entity, Expo 2031 Minnesota USA, confirmed it has secured a purchase agreement for much of the land at the southwest corner of Interstate 35 and Highway 70 for the Expo’s "legacy site." That nearly 57-acre site would serve as the central hub for the six-month Expo and be developed with structures that would remain after the event concludes, according to Expo 2031 Minnesota CEO Wendy Meadley.
The Expo, which is slated to take place May of 2031 through October of 2031, would be the first world exhibition in the U.S. since 1984. Its organizers have said it would attract more than 6 million visitors to the state and could represent over $1 billion in investment, with the potential economic impact of more than $2 billion.
